Topeka Public Schools turns 4,200 observations into a campus-owned learning walk practice with KickUp

Topeka Public Schools, a district with 30 campuses, faced the challenge of creating a consistent and sustainable classroom observation practice to support its three long-term instructional priorities. Their data was trapped in inefficient, disconnected systems like Google Forms and spreadsheets, which made analysis difficult and time-consuming. They partnered with the vendor KickUp to implement its platform for managing walkthroughs, learning walks, and coaching logs.

The solution implemented by KickUp consolidated all observation data into a single, accessible system. This enabled principals to have data-driven coaching conversations and allowed the district to shift from leading every learning walk to holding campuses accountable for their own quarterly practices. As a result, leaders conducted over 5,000 observations, the practice became self-sustaining across 30 schools, and the data became integral to the district's state accreditation process. KickUp provided the infrastructure to turn gut feelings into shared, actionable evidence.
