Water apprentice innovates his way to a bigger pond

Aqua Clear Engineering (ACE) was founded in 2004 in Phoenix by Ryan Johnson, who grew a customer-focused water-treatment business from a two-person startup into a multi-state operation. By 2010 the team had expanded rapidly—call volume had increased tenfold and technicians were spread across Arizona and Nevada—creating major challenges in field communication, dispatching and maintaining consistent service quality.

ACE implemented a field-service platform (KICKSERV) so techs could share notes, photos, documents and expenses from the job site and dispatch could see updates in near real time; techs mark jobs complete before leaving. That change preserved service standards while enabling upsells and wider coverage across a 400-mile area, keeping staff growth and labor costs under control.
