Case Study: Breckenridge Elementary School revamps PBIS and builds a positive school culture with Kickboard

A Kickboard Case Study

Preview of the Breckenridge Elementary School Case Study

How Breckenridge Elementary’s Principal used Kickboard to revamp PBIS with key stakeholders

Breckenridge Elementary School, a K–5 public school in Breckenridge, Colorado, faced the challenge of revamping its PBIS approach to improve school culture, close communication gaps, and make behavior expectations and celebrations consistent across staff and families. To address inconsistent tracking and limited celebration of positives, the school adopted Kickboard (the Kickboard website and app) as the foundation for its behavior management system.

Using Kickboard, the school defined and tracked clear, age‑appropriate behavior expectations, implemented incentives like “Bulldog Bucks,” put a discipline matrix and trauma‑informed restorative processes in place, and held staff accountable for consistent data entry and family communication. Kickboard enabled targeted data analysis and Tier II supports; as a result, teachers reported feeling more supported, families received ongoing updates, the school culture became warmer and more joyful, and negative referrals fell by 27% from 2018/19 to 2019/20.
