Carmen Northwest High School’s Rigorous Academics and Character-Based Culture Turns High-Poverty School into High-Performing School

Carmen High School of Science and Technology, a public charter high school in Milwaukee serving largely low-income students, set out to deliver a rigorous college-prep program while building a character-based culture. School leaders needed an easy, configurable way for teachers to manage behavior, discipline, and interventions across campus, and selected the Kickboard school culture system for its user-friendly platform and professional development.

Using Kickboard, teachers log positive and negative behaviors in real time, track an expected positivity ratio, and run data-driven interventions and reports. As a result, Kickboard helped Carmen reduce suspensions by 36% (and classroom removals by 37%), increase student retention by 23%, boost merits earned by 53%, and become one of six Milwaukee Public Schools high schools to earn a “Meets Expectations” designation on the state report card.
