Yamaha Fine Technologies Achieves 100% High-Frequency PCB Characterization

Yamaha Fine Technologies needed a reliable way to characterize high-frequency PCBs made from flexible substrates (LCP, MPI) for 5G equipment, because traditional coupon testing produced inconsistent, non‑traceable results. To solve this, Yamaha worked with Keysight and integrated high-frequency instrumentation (Keysight M980xA PXI vector network analyzer) alongside Yamaha’s micro prober to address precise multi‑point probing and measurement challenges.

The combined solution—Yamaha’s MP502 micro prober paired with the Keysight M980xA PXI VNA—enabled simultaneous multiport S‑parameter measurements (insertion/return loss, TDR), micron-level probe stability, automatic fixture removal/de‑embedding, and result storage tied to each PCB ID. Keysight’s platform delivered the industry’s first high‑frequency PCB system for testing 100% of components, accelerating testing, reducing operator error, and providing full traceability.
