University of Houston Enhances eLearning with Real-World Labs

The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering needed a fast, affordable way to give students real-world lab experience when COVID-19 forced classes online. In-person take-home kits lacked industry features, budgets were tight, and faculty needed a solution that could be deployed quickly. The school turned to Keysight and its PathWave BenchVue software together with the Keysight Remote Access Lab to provide industry-grade benchtop instruments and remote access capabilities.

Keysight deployed a remote-access lab using PathWave BenchVue (BV9111B lab management) so students could control oscilloscopes, power supplies, waveform generators and DAQ equipment from home, collaborate, and switch benches quickly. The setup takes under an hour per additional bench, supports multiple concurrent users per PC, and costs about half as much per student as take-home kits, while giving students reusable, industry-relevant hands-on skills that improve job readiness and accreditation prospects.
