Scaling to Test for a Million New Patient Cases Every 36 Hours

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, a specialist mental health trust in Camden, London, faced the NHS-wide challenge of moving from legacy systems to configurable electronic patient records (Advanced Care Notes) while coping with the scale of the service — roughly a million new patient cases every 36 hours. Multi-vendor, highly configured platforms were creating iterative-change and testing burdens on clinicians, nurses, administrators and in-house developers, requiring faster, more rigorous testing to keep patient risk low.

Keysight deployed its Eggplant test automation and Robotic Process Automation platform to automate end-to-end testing across Advanced Care Notes, the student information management system and timetabling tools. Keysight’s Eggplant enabled reusable, graphical interfaces so business analysts — not just specialist developers — could build most test and automation flows, significantly reducing developer testing workload, increasing clinician-driven testing, and allowing the Trust to scale testing and change velocity while maintaining low patient risk.
