Phantom™ Virtual tap, Phantom HD™, and xstream™ Help Energy Provider Transport Virtual Traffic

World’s Largest Energy Provider, a South American–based energy enterprise with nearly 100 ESX hosts and over 1,400 virtual machines, faced a loss of visibility into virtual and inter‑VM traffic as it virtualized—threatening a substantial investment in Compuware agentless monitoring (AMD) tools and risking costly tool replacements and staff retraining. Keysight was engaged to address the need to converge physical and virtual networks, optimize resources, and preserve the existing instrumentation layer without installing agents or disrupting VM performance.

Keysight implemented Phantom Virtual Tap (vTap), Phantom HD, and xStream 40 NPB to tunnel GRE‑encapsulated virtual traffic from ESX hosts into the provider’s existing Compuware AMD environment and to filter/regenerate traffic at 10Gb capacity. The solution restored full visibility into virtualized traffic, eliminated the need for multiple proprietary tools, preserved the Compuware investment, reduced time to detect and resolve issues, automated analysis to raise IT efficiency, and increased overall network productivity.
