Network Emulation Remote Storage and Disaster Recovery Performance Validation

Large US Auto Insurance Company, one of the largest auto insurers in the US with more than 12 million customers, needed to validate DASD mirroring and remote storage replication across 1,400–2,000 miles to meet disaster recovery and business continuity requirements. To emulate real-world delays and impairments before deployment, the company worked with Keysight using Ixia Network Emulators (Network Emulator II).

Keysight placed a bi‑directional Ixia Network Emulator between two endpoint multiprotocol switching platforms (Cisco COMET and CNT UltraNet) and tested against a Hitachi Data Systems storage array, reproducing roughly 10 ms transmission latency and carrier impairments. The lab validation confirmed the backup plan met recovery objectives, removed the risk of “wait and see” production testing, and enabled repeatable performance testing that streamlined rollout and improved efficiency and productivity.
