Leading Military Radar Receiver Manufacturing Company needed to meet tighter receiver sensitivity and safety requirements and reduce the risk of false passes during testing. Keysight looked at the company’s calibration approach for PSG signal generators (E8257A/E8257D) and found third‑party calibration had only been verified at 0 dBm, leaving low‑power performance unverified and producing large measurement uncertainty that threatened to let out‑of‑spec units ship.

Keysight provided deeper calibration and uncertainty analysis (including a Keysight calibration report at -90 dBm), enabling the measurement uncertainty for power level accuracy to be reduced from about ±2.5 dB to <±0.12 dB. With Keysight’s solution and guardbanding guidance, false passes fell from 0.05% to <0.001% and the customer’s estimated annual cost avoidance was about $865,000.
