IoT Device Manufacturing Company, a U.S.-based maker of IoT sensors for utility and smart-city deployments, discovered that roughly half of its prototypes were drawing far more power than expected—jeopardizing its 7+ year battery-life target and risking redesigns, delays, or costly recalls. To isolate and reproduce the problem under real-world network and installation conditions, the company turned to Keysight, using the CX3324A Device Current Waveform Analyzer and the UXM Wireless Test Set.
Keysight’s CX3324A identified coupling-induced fast transients on the power rail that interfered with the device clock, and the UXM exposed excessive retransmissions at the cell edge under intermittent connectivity. After simple component and design fixes, the manufacturer improved battery life by 50%, avoided a potential multi‑million dollar recall, and met its launch schedule and budget—results achieved using Keysight’s measurement and wireless-emulation solutions.
