Food Manufacturer Accelerates MTTR For Network Problems

Large Food Manufacturer, a $4B producer and distributor of packaged coffee, health/natural foods and other edibles across North America, ran a complex network with ~7,500 devices and 33 remote sites. Their networking team faced SPAN port shortages on two Cisco 6509 switches (only two SPANs available) while needing to connect four or more monitoring tools, forcing manual SPAN reconfiguration that took 1–2 hours per change and produced duplicate/unnecessary monitoring data that hampered tools like DLP and APM. To address this, they engaged Keysight and its Vision ONE™ network packet broker (NPB).

Keysight deployed one Vision ONE NPB in the primary data center to aggregate and filter traffic from the limited SPAN ports to all monitoring tools, removing intranet subnets and directing only relevant flows to DLP and APM. The result: SPAN contention eliminated, MTTR cut by 70%, web-filtering link utilization dropped from ~90% to 10%, and the device was installed and running within 30 minutes—enabling faster remote troubleshooting and eliminating time-consuming SPAN changes.
