A Keysight Case Study
Micrima Limited set out to commercialize MARIA, a radio‑wave breast‑imaging system designed to detect tumors in dense tissue without ionizing radiation. For prototype and product development Micrima needed a low‑cost, compact data‑acquisition solution with application‑specific microwave bandwidth, high dynamic range and fast measurement speed — requirements that led them to work with Keysight and its M9372A PXIe vector network analyzer.
Keysight supplied PXI‑based VNAs (M9372A) integrated into MARIA’s 60‑antenna acquisition array (using multiple M9372A units to form the required multiport VNA), delivering the speed, dynamic range and compact form factor Micrima required. The Keysight solution enabled successful clinical trials, detection of tumors down to 5 mm, receipt of a CE mark in 2015, and advancement toward commercial launch (including a partnership with Hologic), validating MARIA as a first‑to‑market radio‑wave breast‑imaging system.
