A Keysight Case Study
NEC Personal Computers, a Tokyo-based PC manufacturer, struggled with resource-intensive manual testing and limited automation when trying to reproduce rare OS, integration and GUI-related errors across 24 PC models. Their legacy tools could not handle GUI interactions or keyboard inputs, requiring thousands of repetitive trials to reproduce intermittent faults. To solve this, NEC turned to Keysight and its Eggplant test automation software to automate user-experience testing.
Using Keysight’s Eggplant, NEC automated GUI-level tests with intelligent image and text recognition so the same scripts work across devices and resolutions, and benefitted from responsive Eggplant support during implementation. The results were dramatic: functional testing hours dropped from about 525 to 85, a 1,000-trial reproduction went from 47 to 21 hours, and a 12,000-trial shipping decision fell from 553 to 32 hours (a one-seventeenth reduction), delivering roughly an 84% productivity improvement and an immediate ROI equivalent to a one-year Eggplant license.
