Cook Children’s Healthcare System Improves Networked Application Performance with Network Visibility

Cook Children’s Healthcare System, a not-for-profit pediatric healthcare organization in Fort Worth, faced slow user experience and an inability to proactively detect or quickly diagnose problems affecting critical networked applications like EMR/EHR as its network scaled to multiple 10‑Gbps links and wireless medical devices. Keysight (via its Ixia business) was engaged to address visibility and APM needs, using Ixia’s Net Tool Optimizer (Vision 5288/5236) together with OPNET AppResponse Xpert for application performance monitoring.

Keysight implemented Ixia NTO to aggregate four 10G SPAN feeds, filter out roughly 50% duplicate packets, and feed clean traffic to OPNET AppResponse Xpert for 24x7 baselining, alerting and packet‑level analysis. The joint Keysight/Ixia solution gave complete traffic visibility, enabled proactive WAN latency thresholds, and accelerated root‑cause troubleshooting—cutting diagnosis time from days to hours—and helped quickly identify issues such as an exhausted load‑balancer connection table during an Outlook migration.
