Component Manufacturer Uses Calibration to Detect Changes in Test System Measurement Uncertainty

Leading Latest Wireless Component Manufacturer, an industry-leading maker of filters and front-end components for modern wireless devices, faced growing measurement uncertainty in S-parameter tests (notably ripple deviation) caused by instrument, cable, and connector drift. These uncertainties threatened pass/fail accuracy, squeezed design margins, and risked missing ramp-to-volume targets. The customer engaged Keysight, using Keysight’s calibration services and Electronic Calibration Module along with Keysight’s risk calculator to address the problem.

Keysight analyzed correction terms to detect a faulty connector, performed calibration that restored measurement uncertainty from ±0.5 dB to ±0.2 dB, and used its risk calculator to quantify business impact: false passes fell from 1.56% to 0.92% (a 41% reduction), false fails dropped from 6.86% to 1.75% (74% decrease), and estimated annual cost savings were about 51%. Armed with these measurable results, the manufacturer justified investing in Keysight calibration services to lower risk and cost.
