British Telecom (BT) Drives Development Transformation With Eggplant

BT, one of the world’s leading communications providers, faced growing scale and complexity in its consumer-facing business support systems (BSS) and relied heavily on slow, manual regression testing. To accelerate development cycles, broaden test coverage across browsers and devices (including mobile and set-top boxes), and reduce the testing burden on staff, BT chose Keysight’s Eggplant Functional test automation solution.

Keysight implemented a six-month Eggplant pilot (used alongside existing UFT in some areas) to automate end-to-end regression testing across web, backend systems (Oracle, Siebel) and devices. Within six months BT automated 75% of regression tests, increased test automation by about 150%, and expects to run at least 2.5× more test executions by year end—delivering faster defect detection, higher quality, productivity gains and freed resources for higher-value testing. Keysight’s Eggplant also enabled broader rollout of automation across BT’s teams and a roadmap toward full regression automation.
