Automated Test Environment for Notebook Manufacturing

First International Computer, Inc. (FIC), a major notebook and PC motherboard original design manufacturer, faced intense competition, shrinking margins and pressure to cut costs while improving quality and lead times. To tighten design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and automated test processes, FIC partnered with Keysight and deployed the Keysight 3070 in-circuit test (ICT) system as part of an integrated automated test environment.

Keysight’s 3070 provided automated program generation, short-wire fixturing, stable inline operation and networked process feedback, allowing FIC to run tests 24/6 with virtually no idle time (down from about 20%), meet three-week program development windows, begin shipping three days after order, reduce WIP and inventory, lower warranty/overhead costs and increase downstream yields—delivering measurable improvements to throughput, quality and margins.
