Automate Update and Manage Epic Electronic Health Record

UNC Health Care, an integrated healthcare system based in Chapel Hill, NC, faced growing challenges keeping its Epic electronic health record current while onboarding new practices and modules. With a QA team of one and time‑consuming tasks such as transferring sensitive dermatology scans and testing modules like Beaker and Grand Central, the organization needed automation that could interact with Epic like an end user. UNC Health Care selected Keysight’s Eggplant Functional test automation software to address these constraints.

Keysight implemented Eggplant Functional to automate regression testing, secure image transfers, automated test‑patient creation, and charge/coding validation. The results were dramatic: five days of Eggplant testing replaced an estimated 180 full‑time hours, UNC Health Care automated the processing of 940 charges (940 unique clinical encounters and 72 mandatory fields), completed Beaker testing in under a week, reduced reliance on borrowed testers, and improved test data quality and patient privacy. Keysight’s Eggplant also proved easy for nontechnical analysts to learn, further accelerating testing throughput.
