Case Study: Public Radio Exchange (PRX) achieves 4x revenue growth and scalable server-side podcast ad serving with Kevel

A Kevel Case Study

Preview of the PRX Case Study

PRX uses Kevel to scale their homegrown podcast ad platform

PRX (Public Radio Exchange), which runs public radio’s largest podcast marketplace, faced a scaling challenge: their homegrown ad server couldn’t keep up with advertiser and podcaster demands for new features and better targeting, and they lacked the engineering bandwidth to build them. PRX turned to Kevel’s ad serving APIs to augment their in-house platform and add functionality quickly.

Kevel implemented server-side decisioning (Kevel’s Decision Engine) that returns JSON ad decisions and stitches targeted audio into episode files at download, allowing PRX to host compiled episodes on their CDN. Using Kevel, PRX launched the upgrade in weeks, achieved 4x more revenue by monetizing back-catalog episodes, cut ad response times to as low as ~50ms (<100ms), improved contextual relevance, and gained automation via Kevel’s UI and Management APIs.
