OnePlus closes Michelangelo’s 500-year loop with Kerve

The smartphone manufacturer OnePlus and their PR agency W Communications tasked the digital production studio Kerve with a unique challenge: to help artist Philip Colbert project his modern artwork directly onto the walls of London’s National Gallery. The goal was to complete a Michelangelo masterpiece that had been unfinished for 500 years, but with a contemporary digital twist that showcased the creative potential of their new OnePlus Open foldable phone.

Kerve executed this by taking the final completed artwork and a time-lapsed version of its creation and projecting them in 4K onto a custom-built wall inside the gallery. This allowed the new modern piece to be displayed directly alongside the original Renaissance work. The solution successfully demonstrated the phone's capabilities as a pocket-sized creative studio, aligning with OnePlus's broader campaign to highlight how their device helps users overcome productivity constraints and be creative anywhere.
