D&AD’s MoodTree showcases 2,500 tweets and 1,500 colours with Kerve

The customer, D&AD, needed a way to depict and visualize the social media conversation happening on Twitter about their 2016 creative festival. Kerve was tasked with building an installation that would capture the event's online mood.

Kerve created the MoodTree, an interactive sculpture that pulled in tweets containing the event hashtag. Using natural language processing, the installation identified the most meaningful word from each tweet and displayed it on LED matrices within colored lanterns. The result was that MoodTree captured 2,500 tweets and was a major highlight of the festival, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback and leading to requests to display at events across Europe.
