A Kentico Case Study

Walkingworld - Customer Case Study

Walkingworld, a travel/tourism site offering a large library of downloadable walk routes and tens of thousands of members, was running on a 10-year-old site with limited community features, dated design and usability issues. The owners wanted a platform to build a more integrated online community and a site that responded to members’ account status; the biggest challenge was porting legacy data and keeping the experience familiar for an older user base while making significant functional changes.

D2X Digital implemented a Kentico CMS front-end as a portal to a bespoke walks database, using custom webparts to enable search, area browsing and membership-aware access; the back-end admin was deployed first and the new front-end followed within a year. Early results include stronger branding and usability, better membership handling, overwhelmingly positive user feedback, significant admin time savings (authors can publish themselves and some tasks are cut by over 80%), with formal metrics pending after a longer live period.
