VRFapp - Customer Case Study

VRFapp is a custom large-scale web application built for Hitachi Appliance Products and Temperzone Australia to design, specify, prepare quotes and generate reports for Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) air conditioning. The login-only system serves eight market subdomains, runs on three linked servers and supports English and Spanish. The challenge was to create a web-based calculation engine and graphical drawing tools for refrigerant piping and electrical diagrams, produce PDF and Excel reports, deploy linked databases across regions, manage per-domain user/product access, provide multilingual help, and make the tool simple enough for sales staff with limited math skills.

The solution began with an Oceania launch (RC Dec 2011, v1 Jan 2012) built in Kentico 6 with custom .NET/C#/JavaScript components; version 2 expanded product ranges, rewrote the drawing functions and rolled out to Singapore and LA (Spanish) servers, and the PDF engine was later rebuilt. Kentico provided the CMS shell, multilayered user management and language support while the core application remained custom. In the first 10 months in Oceania the app produced over 2,000 projects and about 350 quotes, development cost was under 2% of sales, and the platform is being extended (Chinese/Taiwan and v3 approved).
