Radio Free America - Customer Case Study

Radio Free America is a non-profit platform founded to bring together small college, independent and non-commercial radio stations, letting stations, DJs and listeners stream, upload and share audio while building community through chat and archives. The challenge was turning that concept into a scalable, DMCA-compliant web product: streaming and archive playback, role-based access, Kentico integration with Ajax page loading, and incorporation of external services (NoSQL, search, scheduling and real-time chat) while starting as an MVP and growing via iterative releases.

BlueModus implemented the site using Kentico templates plus custom web parts, tables and user/role modules, with a backend for approvals and cache management and integrations for Icecast streaming, MongoDB, Elasticsearch and SignalR. The architecture supports growth without additional coding; the product launched in July 2014, exceeded initial station sign-up forecasts via word-of-mouth and has shown steady usage growth with sign-ups expected to double each quarter.
