North Charleston, the third-largest city in South Carolina, partnered with digital agency BlueKey to launch its first dedicated tourism website to showcase local attractions, events, lodging and dining for visitors who often stay in the city while visiting the Charleston area. The main challenges were starting from a blank slate while preserving city branding and delivering a mobile-first, easy-to-use experience for travelers planning day trips on the go.
BlueKey built a responsive Kentico CMS site with an action-oriented events calendar, custom business mapping and filtering, personalized itinerary and favorites tools, and integrated social feeds—empowering non-technical staff to manage content. The new site quickly drove measurable growth: sessions rose ~198%, users increased ~180%, pageviews grew ~119%, and mobile usage outpaced desktop by 50%, helping convert hotel guests into visitors for local businesses.
