Cleaning Product Industry delays costly ECHA regulation in 2024 with Kellen

The cleaning product industry faced a costly new regulatory challenge when the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) proposed the Mixture Assessment Factor (MAF) rule, which would have added a significant financial burden to the safety assessment process for products containing certain ingredients. The industry, represented by the Council for LAB/LAS Environmental Research (CLER), partnered with vendor Kellen and its public affairs service to challenge the proposal on the grounds of its lack of scientific basis and significant economic impact.

Kellen implemented a strategic advocacy solution that included publishing scientific critiques in an online journal, funding an independent scientist's presentation at a European workshop, and presenting concerns at a science conference. As a result of these efforts, ECHA postponed the implementation of the MAF in 2024. This delay, achieved through Kellen's support, provided the cleaning product industry valuable time to continue advocating for a science-based regulatory approach.
