Standardization of Refinery Flow Meter Compensation Increases Productivity

KBC A Yokogawa Company worked with a major oil refiner operating multiple North American refineries that was struggling with aging software for flow meter compensation. The old system limited engineers’ visibility into analytics and required IT support to add, update, or remove meters, creating delays and reducing control for mass balance engineers and production accountants. KBC used the OSIsoft PI platform with PI Asset Framework and analytics to modernize the process.

KBC designed and implemented a standardized, self-service flow meter compensation application with reusable templates, consistent units of measure, and role-based permissions for administrators and contributors. The solution gave engineers full visibility into analytics and configurable parameters, improved troubleshooting, and reduced dependence on IT. KBC completed the project on budget and on schedule, including six weeks of development and a four-week rollout at each refinery, delivering a reliable, easier-to-maintain system that increased productivity and accuracy across four refineries.
