KBC A Yokogawa Company worked with a leading building greenfield refinery company in India that was expanding from a refinery into an integrated petrochemical complex. The customer needed a better way to optimize complex refinery and petrochemical stream routing, since molecular characterization, product specs, and profitability trade-offs made it difficult to decide how to use streams like C5 recycle and raffinate across the gasoline pool and steam cracker.

KBC A Yokogawa Company implemented Petro-SIM process simulator reactor models together with COILSIM1D to create a digital twin of the integrated refinery-petrochemical and aromatics complex. Using site-wide molecular and carbon-level optimization, the customer changed stream routing to send C5 to the gasoline pool and raffinate to the cracker, which improved feedstock selection, optimized the gasoline pool, and delivered savings of about USD 6 million per year.
