Preview of the Vietnam’s National Cyber Security Center Case Study

Kaspersky’s contributions to Vietnam’s National Cyber Security Center’s National Malware Detection and Removal Campaign

Vietnam’s National Cyber Security Center faced persistently high malware infection rates and millions of Vietnamese IP addresses enrolled in major botnets, so it launched the National Malware Detection and Removal Campaign aiming to cut infections and botnet presence by 50%. Kaspersky Lab partnered with the NCSC, providing threat intelligence, Kaspersky Security Network data and complimentary malware-removal tools to help identify and address infections across public and private devices.

Kaspersky Lab’s anti-malware research team shared intelligence on 10 major botnets and supplied free removal tools during the campaign; more than 1.2 million devices were scanned, over 400,000 infected computers were detected and supported, and about 10,000 tool downloads were recorded in the campaign’s final months. The joint effort drove measurable impact — botnet IPs fell by roughly half, web threats declined 14.2% and local threats 27.8% in 2020 (KSN data), reaching over eight million people and materially strengthening Vietnam’s national cyber resilience.
