Cyberattacks and crisis communications: a matter of reputation

The Ministry of Interior, Republic of Serbia — the government ministry responsible for law enforcement and citizen data — needed to prepare cross‑functional teams to manage public communication during cyberattacks without undermining public trust. Facing tight regulatory timelines (GDPR’s 72‑hour notification requirement) and limited cybersecurity knowledge among PR and management, the Ministry turned to Kaspersky Lab and its Kaspersky Incident Communication training to close the gap between technical responders and communications staff.

Kaspersky Lab delivered a tailored, hands‑on workshop based on real APT experience (Duqu) that trained seven key IT, PR and CERT personnel and guided the Ministry in producing a Cybersecurity Incident Communication Plan. The practical simulations improved coordination between technical and PR teams, raised senior‑management awareness, and left the Ministry better prepared to disclose incidents quickly and protect its reputation — helping meet regulatory deadlines and reduce the risk of damaging public trust.
