How Hippo Insurance improved onsite-to-offer ratio by 2x

Hippo Insurance needed to double the size of its software engineering team to meet aggressive product and growth goals but lacked the interviewing capacity and expertise to do so. To solve this, Hippo partnered with Karat to run first-round technical interviews through Karat’s Interview Engineering service and to align evaluation criteria across seven technical roles.

Karat conducted nearly 700 interviews in 2020, reclaimed over 2,000 engineering hours, and provided analytics, insights, and interviewer training that improved Hippo’s hiring predictiveness and candidate experience. The partnership yielded a 2x improvement in onsite-to-offer ratio, a 5.8-day average turnaround in the Karat process, 93% of candidates rating the experience positively, and supported a 3x growth of Hippo’s engineering team.
