Ethos Life needed to grow its software engineering team sixfold across Austin, Singapore, and San Francisco in under 12 months while preparing for a funding round and accelerating an ambitious product roadmap. After finding automated code tests and take-home assignments couldn’t reliably surface senior-level communication and collaboration skills and were consuming engineering time, Ethos Life partnered with Karat to help scale hiring without overburdening its engineers.
Karat’s Interview Engineers ran first-round live technical interviews (with Alignment Engineers calibrating the Ethos hiring bar) for backend, frontend, full-stack, data science, and SWE roles, freeing engineering bandwidth and improving hiring quality. As a result of Karat’s approach, Ethos Life hired 35 senior software engineers, reclaimed about 400 hours of developer time, increased interview completion to 77% (from 70%), and achieved a 93% candidate satisfaction rating, while boosting team morale and recruiter effectiveness.
