A KanbanBOX Case Study
El.Co. Srl, a specialist in industrial electrical automation, faced significant challenges in scaling its manual kanban system. As the system grew to manage more parts and production lines, the maintenance and sizing of kanban cards became a major burden, requiring two people to spend three full days every two months on manual data entry and card reprinting. This labor-intensive process limited the number of components that could be managed and hindered further Lean transformation. To overcome these scalability issues, El.Co. turned to vendor KanbanBOX for its electronic kanban solution.
KanbanBOX provided a digital solution that automated the kanban sizing calculation and simplified card management. The software tracks consumption data and automatically suggests the ideal number of cards, eliminating manual Excel work. It also generates unique, disposable cards on demand, so reprinting all cards for a part is no longer necessary. The results for El.Co. were substantial: maintenance time was reduced from days to minutes, the number of codes managed via kanban doubled from 120 to 241, and the system was extended to include low-turnover components. KanbanBOX also helped reduce lead times and was integrated with the company's ERP.
