The University of Virginia, a top-ranked public research university with about 20,000 students, needed a flexible, secure video platform to support widespread use of video across campus—from hundreds of recorded classes and distance-learning lectures to admissions content and student collaboration. Key requirements were an open architecture they could customize, seamless integration with systems like Sakai, WordPress and Drupal, and the ability to protect and restrict access to assignments and other content.

Kaltura met those needs with an open, service-oriented platform that integrates directly with UVA’s LMS and CMS, offers robust security controls, and allows university staff to participate in tailoring the technology. As a result, video is now embedded across departments and systems, hundreds of courses are available online, student collaboration and admissions outreach have expanded, and UVA maintains control and flexibility over its video ecosystem.
