A Kaltura Case Study
The University of Queensland’s School of Pharmacy, a long‑time Blackboard user, needed a way to assess not just drug knowledge but also communication, teaching and lifelong‑learning skills—without increasing instructor workload. Faculty worried about large cohorts, many ESL students, heavy file uploads at deadlines, and administrative tracking for group work, so they sought a centrally supported, reliable video solution for high‑stakes assessment.
They adopted the Kaltura Video Building Block for Blackboard and ran three‑to‑four‑minute group video assignments (one student uploads and tags group members) in courses such as PHRM1011. Over three years and nearly 1,000 videos the program ran smoothly with fast uploads, clear workflows, high student engagement and positive instructor experience—improving assessment of soft skills while keeping marking efficient and manageable.
