Northern Essex Community College Putting Personal Video Capture in Faculty (and Student!) Hands with Kaltura CaptureSpace

Northern Essex Community College (NECC), a two‑campus community college in northern Massachusetts offering about 70 programs and more than 160 online courses, needed an easy way to scale video instruction as students increasingly relied on video over dense text. Faculty saw the value but many lacked the technical skills to produce videos, and browser‑based tools proved unreliable, creating a bottleneck that campus IT and media teams couldn’t sustainably support.

NECC deployed Kaltura CaptureSpace, a desktop personal‑capture app, combined with short face‑to‑face coaching and simple installs so instructors could create videos independently. Adoption climbed (at least 29% of eligible users in 12 months), with departments using it for slide‑synced lectures, webcam+screencast lessons, shared nursing resources, and student assignments in public speaking and ESL—making video creation faster, more reliable, and widely adopted.
