The National University of Ireland – Galway (NUI Galway), serving more than 17,000 students, had rapidly increased use of the Blackboard Learn platform and faced a growing need to manage video content across campus. Limited on‑campus IT resources, inadequate storage, and privacy concerns with public platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, iTunes U) left staff using ad hoc or clumsy alternatives and created a clear need for a hosted, easy‑to‑use video solution.

NUI Galway implemented the Kaltura Video Building Block in Blackboard (installed campus‑wide in January 2012), giving faculty a cloud‑hosted, privacy‑controlled way to create, edit and share video across devices. Early adopters used it for richer feedback in the interpreting program and to produce 21 experiment demonstrations plus seven equipment tutorials for physics labs, saving prep time and improving student learning; the university has since expanded Kaltura campus‑wide with MediaSpace and SharePoint integrations and reports strong adoption and support.
