Enhancing Student Engagement with Interactive Videos

Wilmington University, which serves more than 19,000 students across 14 locations in Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland, grew its online offerings to more than a third of all courses and became one of the fastest-growing universities in the U.S. However, dispersed use of YouTube and Vimeo left courses feeling flat and made university-wide management, branding, and cross-publishing of video content impossible — the school needed a centralized video platform that integrated with Blackboard Learn.

After a pilot from October 2013 to July 2014, Wilmington adopted Kaltura campus-wide. The Blackboard-integrated solution made creating, editing, storing and publishing video simple, was built into faculty training, and enabled use cases from student introductions to nursing skills assessments with immediate feedback. Usage doubled between July and September 2014, cloud storage is being expanded, engagement improved, and support needs remained minimal.
