Daimler Trucks North America cuts trailer move time 50% with Kaleris

Daimler Trucks North America, a major truck manufacturer, faced significant challenges in managing its vast trailer yard at its Saltillo, Mexico plant. With hundreds of daily trailer movements, manual tracking methods were inefficient, leading to obsolete data, manufacturing line shortages, and high labor costs. The company sought a solution to run its trailer yard with greater efficiency and turned to Kaleris for its advanced Yard Management System (YMS) powered by Real-Time Location System (RTLS) technology.

Kaleris implemented its YMS, which uses passive RFID tags and mobile readers to track assets in real-time. The solution was configured to meet Daimler's specific requirements and deployed rapidly. The results were substantial, including 99% trailer yard accuracy, a 50% reduction in trailer move time, and a 50% decrease in carrier detention fees. Following this success, Kaleris' system was expanded to all of Daimler's U.S. and Mexico plants and was later adapted to manage finished vehicle inventory, greatly enhancing supply chain visibility and operational efficiency.
