A Kalamuna Case Study
The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) partnered with Kalamuna to redesign its web presence. AFB's challenge was to shift its strategic mandate from helping people navigate existing systems to changing those systems, requiring a website that could appeal to new audiences like policymakers while continuing to serve its established audience. The project demanded a fully accessible design for all users, including the AFB's own developers with vision loss.
Kalamuna implemented a solution that began with an agile pivot to content strategy, conducting workshops to define new messaging and restructuring vast existing content. They used their tool, Kalastatic, to create a responsive HTML style guide and prototype, empowering AFB's in-house team to build the site in Drupal. The result was a successful launch completed by AFB without further assistance. Kalamuna delivered a modern, accessible website that met AFB's goal of reaching a wider audience and meaningfully deepened the vendor's own awareness of inclusive design.
