Ideas for Spreading Improvement from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital

Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, an 800‑bed teaching hospital in Baton Rouge, faced the challenge of sustaining and scaling Lean and CAP (Change Acceleration Process) improvements while managing a major new electronic medical records (EMR) implementation. To capture, prioritize and drive performance improvement across the organization they adopted KaiNexus (in use since early 2015) as their primary system for tracking improvement work.

Using KaiNexus to collect standardized idea submissions (problem, SMART goal, business case), require weekly updates, and coordinate Lean boot camps and leadership review, Our Lady of the Lake turned 34 submissions into 11 boot‑camp projects and tracked hundreds of initiatives. KaiNexus enabled more consistent reporting and coaching and helped deliver measurable results: implemented impact of $2,240,593 with a $5,952,024 pipeline, an annualized financial impact of $8,192,617, 50,198 hours saved and 383 total completes—clear evidence of increased transparency and scale in their improvement program.
