University story putting theory into practice with Kahoot!

Dr Maria Gebbels, a Research Methods lecturer at the University of Greenwich, faced the challenge of making complex, theoretical material stick for second‑year Management students. To boost retention and engagement in small tutorials (10–15 students), she adopted Kahoot!, mainly using the platform’s quiz option to recap lecture content and move students from theory to practice.

By starting tutorials with short Kahoot! quizzes (around 10 questions), Kahoot! gives instant feedback that lets students test their understanding and lets the teacher quickly identify topics that are less well understood. The approach increased student motivation and created a noticeable buzz in class, provided clear, actionable feedback for targeted review, and made assessment and interaction faster and more effective for the University of Greenwich.
