Teacher shares his experience of transitioning to distance learning

Manila Xiamen International School faced an abrupt shift to distance learning when the coronavirus closure sent students home in February 2020. Raymond Mitchel, an IB MYP Science and Design teacher, needed ways to keep students engaged, on track with review content, and socially connected — so he adopted Kahoot! (using quizzes, true/false, puzzles, slides and student‑paced challenges) alongside Zoom, OneNote, Flipgrid, Seesaw and Edmodo to recreate interactive lessons online.

Using Kahoot! Mitchel ran quick kahoots at the start and end of lessons, embedded slides to explain concepts in‑game, used puzzles for variety, and deployed student‑paced challenges to accommodate different time zones. Kahoot! helped sustain high engagement, provided ongoing formative assessment to keep the review schedule on track, and even enabled global connections with students in Egypt, India and Malaysia — preserving motivation and participation despite remote learning.
