Ready for work play Kahoot! to digitally engage trainees with learning disabilities

Cafe Leep, a community café in Leeds that trains adults with learning disabilities, needed an engaging, inclusive way to teach food safety and prepare trainees for Level 1 and 2 Food Safety (NVQ) certification. To boost participation and digital inclusion, Cafe Leep adopted Kahoot! to deliver exam practice tests and interactive learning sessions.

Using Kahoot! since January 2019, tutors built tailored kahoots with different difficulty levels, images and adjustable timings, and run team-mode quizzes twice weekly on loaned iPads. The Kahoot!-based approach has helped 30 trainees complete the program and gain workplace skills, produced week-by-week score improvements, increased digital independence, and better prepared learners for official food safety certification.
