A Kahoot! Case Study
Poio, a gamified learn-to-read app, has joined the Kahoot! family and is launching a UK English version of its phonics-based product. Tasked with adapting a successful Norwegian/Swedish curriculum for UK learners aged 3–8, Poio aimed to address a national challenge — where 1 in 5 children in the UK leave primary school unable to read or write properly — by localizing pronunciation, story content and learning scaffolds for English-speaking children.
Working with Kahoot!, Poio produced a UK-tailored release by commissioning a UK children’s author, partnering with a speech therapist, recording UK voiceovers with a Birmingham sound designer and casting narrator Andrew Raymond Barnes, and testing the app with more than 200 UK families. The updated app is now available on the App Store and Google Play, builds on Poio’s proven impact in Scandinavia (100,000+ children taught), and can be accessed by existing users by switching language settings — positioning Kahoot! and Poio to reach many more young readers in the UK.
