Insider Inc., the publisher behind Business Insider and Insider, wanted to boost video engagement for click-to-play videos inside articles but found editorial curation slow and their in-house matching algorithm underperformed. To automate and improve relevance while preserving design and workflow, Insider Inc. turned to long-standing partner JW Player and its Article Matching and Recommendations products.
JW Player deployed Article Matching (which analyzes article text and metadata to insert the most relevant video) and Recommendations (machine learning-driven suggestions using network-wide signals) with minimal implementation effort and support from JW Player’s team. The results were significant: a 61% increase in CTR vs. the in-house solution, a 97% lift in ad impressions, an 11.4% lift in completed video views, and 1.3 incremental plays per initial play (plus 0.9 incremental ad impressions per initial impression).
