First Peoples Fund is a Native-led nonprofit supporting Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Alaskan Native artists, and its rapid growth created new operational challenges, especially as remote hiring expanded payroll and tax-filing needs across multiple states. To keep pace, the organization turned to Justworks and its PEO service for payroll processing and compliance support.

Justworks helped First Peoples Fund offload state filings, quarterlies, and 941s, while also providing HR and compliance guidance through Mineral for onboarding and termination questions. The result was more time for the team to focus on mission-driven work, and Justworks also awarded First Peoples Fund a $50,000 Justworks.org grant in 2022 to support its business leadership fellowships for entrepreneurs and female artists.
