The Original Cakerie becomes BRC Global Standard and GFSI Certified

The Original Cakerie, Canada’s largest privately owned dessert manufacturer, faced fragmented, home-grown systems that created data silos and limited visibility across departments. To solve this, The Original Cakerie selected Aptean Food & Beverage ERP JustFood Edition (JustFood) for its user-friendly interface and adaptability, beginning a phased ERP rollout in 2006 to replace disparate applications and centralize operations.

Using Aptean Food & Beverage ERP JustFood Edition, The Original Cakerie implemented a three-phase solution: core financials, payroll, manufacturing, quality control and labor scheduling (2006); centralized recipe/BOM/product specifications and trade promotion management with a broker portal (2012); and warehouse management with barcode scanning. The result was that 90% of business processes are now centralized, shop-floor visibility is real time, traceability and corrective-action tracking are integrated, and the company achieved BRC Global Standard and GFSI certification by the end of 2012 — improving food safety compliance and better managing trade spend and rebate requests.
