A Juniper Networks Case Study
Zayo Group, a global bandwidth and connectivity provider with an 82,000‑mile network, needed a cost‑effective, high‑density core to meet rapidly growing Ethernet bandwidth demand. The company aimed to re‑architect to a BGP‑free MPLS Layer‑2 core across the U.S. and Europe that could scale to 100GbE services and support a service‑oriented Ethernet edge.
Zayo deployed Juniper’s SDN‑ready PTX5000 and PTX3000 Packet Transport Routers and MX2010 edge routers to build a 100GbE core. The new design delivered an 8 Tbps BGP‑free MPLS core (scalable to more capacity and up to eight 100GbE ports per slot), enabled rapid 100 Gbps service activation, and improved resiliency and service agility (protection switching ~20–30 ms). The rollout cut power and cooling costs by about $1.8M annually and lowered overall TCO while enhancing customer experience.
